How To Unblock A Sink
How To Unblock A Sink
There are many different ways & many products out there that can unblock a sink, but this method uses products you will probably have lying around anyway & works just as good,if not better than a lot of them.
All you will need to carry out this simple DIY task is baking soda, distilled white vinegar, salt & boiling water.First of all you need to put some of the baking soda in small container, slowly add the water until it has a thick creamy consistency(the thicker the better, but still pourable),remember to stir constantly as you add the water.Pour the mixture down the plughole, now slowly pour an equal amount of the distilled white vinegar down the plughole. The vinegar & baking soda will cause a foaming chemical reaction which will penetrate & work on the blockage. If you put your ear closer to the sink you can actually hear the solution working. This is also useful for cleaning the pipework at regular intervals as part of your routine maintenance.
Leave the solution to do its thing for about 10 minutes, giving it enough time to work on whatever is blocking your sink. While that is happening boil approx. a pint of water, add the salt to create a brine & pour it down the sink.Leave this to stand for a further five minutes or so,hopefully this should have removed the blockage. If it is still blocked, boil some more water & salt solution and repeat the process. If it is a really stubborn blockage you may have to repeat the whole process.Once the blockage has gone, turn on the hot tap & leave to run for five or ten minutes to wash away any grime or solution that may be left in the plughole or pipes, you now know how to unblock a sink using some things you may already have lying around.
